New Crow Design on Black Tshirt
The crow is important to the group, from our member, Birdie Girl, to the team's logo which is a black crow with greek lettering, the group loves its crows.
Why crows? Crows or Ravens (they are different breeds of birds but often get grouped together) have a storied history especially in Celtic folklore. These birds are often linked to the Otherworld, a mystical realm that exists parallel to our own. In Celtic belief, crows and ravens are seen as psychopomps, guiding the souls of the deceased to the afterlife.
Native Americans found the black birds equally intriguing. To many tribes, these birds are seen as messengers between the earthly realm and the spirit world. They are believed to possess deep knowledge and insight, serving as conduits for communication with ancestors and spirit guides. In some tribes, crows and ravens are also considered trickster figures, known for their cleverness and ability to challenge the status quo. The diverse interpretations of these birds within Native American belief systems showcase the complexity of their cultural symbolism.
The Norse as well had a fascination with the black bird. Norse Mythology: In the realm of Norse mythology, ravens occupy a hallowed place. Odin, the Allfather of the Norse pantheon, is often depicted with two ravens, Huginn (Thought) and Muninn (Memory), perched on his shoulders. These avian companions are believed to bring news from the world of humans to the god, offering him invaluable insights into the affairs of the mortal realm. The association between these intelligent birds and a deity as prominent as Odin underscores their significance in Norse cosmology, where they bridge the realms of mortality and divinity.
